Hôtel de Paris – A Monte-Carlo Mainstay
Who better than a master sommelier to be your guide as you enter a subterranean world of some of the finest – and rarest – wines on the planet? With over 350,000 bottles of wines and spirits kept in these temperature controlled tunnels, you’re in esteemed company should you choose to dine in this underground space; it’s where Princess Grace and Prince Rainier of Monaco celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in the spring of 1976. As you learn about the vintages stored here, the sommelier may blow the dust off the likes of Yquem’s 1890 or Margaux’s 1945, bottles that are almost beyond valuation. Then to dinner in the cellars themselves and a chance to feast on some of the classic dishes created by one of the great French kitchens. And to finish, you might even want to take a nip of the cellar’s few remaining bottles of rum dating from 1811. It’s a drink with history; it’s what Winston Churchill drank here when he reopened the cellars after the Second World War.
