Motoring Event Calendar – 2016
New model launches, international shows, preened classics dressed up for pomp, ceremony and bragging rights plus a handful of auctions mark just a few of our motoring calendars inclusions. We chart the highlights for the year to come
January
NAIAS. Detroit, USA – 11-24 January. The first great motor show of the year, expect enlightening new announcements and buzzworthy hints to models yet to be revealed.
Bonhams Las Vegas Motorcycle Auction. Las Vegas, USA – 7 January. Vintage bikes galore, including a clutch of desirable Indians, as Bonhams take over the Bally Hotel & Casino.
Rolex 24 at Daytona. Florida, USA – 28-31 January. A brand new stadium at the Daytona International Speedway gives this high-octane endurance race new lustre as it enters its 54th edition.
Qatar Motorshow. Qatar, UAE – 27 January - 1 February. The largest motor show in the middle east. Short of heading to the showroom, it’s the region’s best chance to catch an eyeful of the latest models.
March
Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Florida, USA – 11-13 March. The 21st edition of this annual gathering brings the show field, RM Sotheby’s Auction, Silent Auction and more with a splash of Floridian sunshine.
Geneva Auto Salon. Geneva, Switzerland – 3-13 March. Arguably the world’s largest auto show, packing out the halls of the Geneva Palexpo. Expect dramatic unveilings and as ever, a glimpse of the future of motoring.

Monaco Historic Grand Prix. Monaco – 13-15 May. Celebrating its tenth edition, this 8-series grand prix sees 50 years of automotive history take to the iconic Monaco circuit, driven by enthusiasts and collectors the world over.
Concourse d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. Lake Como, Italy – 20-22 May. A weekend of elegance incarnate on the banks of Lake Como, expect to see the world’s finest specimens compete for the coveted Best in Show prize. Similar competition will likely be seen at RM Auctions’ Villa Erba sale, too.
Mille Miglia. Brescia-Rome, Italy – 19-22 May. The iconic ‘thousand miles’ race, may have been rather short lived, but the spirit lives on in this classic endurance rally, taking in the beautiful, rolling Italian countryside from Brescia to Rome and back again.
June
Goodwood FoS. West Sussex, UK – 23-26 June. A global gathering for all things that go ‘vroom’, this open festival celebrates the best of motoring in all shapes and sizes. The daring hill-climb is not to be missed.
July
Le Mans Classic. Le Mans, France – 8-10 July. The eighth edition of the biannual extravaganza brings some 500 classic cars to Le Mans for a feel-good weekend of racing and festivities.
August
Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. California, USA – 21 August. Fostering competition on the green, but without a golf ball in sight, Pebble Beach pits collector against collector on the finely groomed grass of Pebble Beach Golf Links.
September
Salon Privé. Berkshire, UK – 1-3 September. The ‘boutique’ motoring event sees a discerning clientele come together for a sophisticated weekend of concours, auction, exhibition and festivity in the grounds of the magnificent Blenheim Palace.
Chantilly Arts & Elegance Concours. Chantilly, France – 4 September. Set in the ornate, palatial grounds of Château de Chantilly, this celebration of the fine arts also looks to classic car collectors far and wide to showcase their immaculate wheels.
October
Zoute Grand Prix. Knokke-Heist, Belgium – 6-9 October. Drawing a crowd to Knokke-Heist, the Zoute Grand Prix boasts five main events, including the Zoute Rally, for classics through the Belgian hinterland, a Bonhams sale, and Concours d’Elegance held at the Royal Zoute Golf Club.
Intermot. Cologne, Germany – 5-9 October. For trade and avid-rider alike, Intermot sees some thousand manufacturers and hundreds of thousands gather for the latest in motorcycle innovation.
