Hotel Esencia
Sea views and resplendent beaches on the Yucatán Peninsula
This 50-acre estate, once the domain of an Italian duchess, has recently been bolstered by 11 new suites, bringing the accommodation roster up to 41 (38 suites and three private villas). Choose, for example, between the Beach Suites, with easy access to the turquoise waters, or the Jungle suites, where inviting plunge pools are surrounded by dense foliage. The hideaways are nestled around the complex’s hub-like main house. Last year Esencia also added Mistura, a beachfront eatery helmed by Dimitris Katrivesis, who crafts Peruvian-Japanese fare to be enjoyed on the shores of the Yucatán Peninsula.
