Laucala Island
Billionaire’s playground with gourmet and spa delights
When Austria’s Red Bull magnate, Dietrich Mateschitz, purchased this palm-fringed, 1,400ha island in 2002, he imagined the ultimate South Pacific frolic for friends and family. Now as a member of Leading Hotels of the World, it has been launched anew as a jewel in the South Pacific archipelago’s crown with gourmet and spa additions. The Plantation House restaurant continues French chef Martin Klein’s work taking tropical ingredients and reinterpreting them with Gallic knowhow, while the Spa Journey showcases Fijian indigenous treatments and ingredients.
