Hotel Tugu Bali
An artifact-filled retreat with a charming rooftop bar

Conceived as a museum-of-sorts where owner Anhar Setjadibrata could house his vast collection of antiques, the hotel bids to recapture the essence – and artistic spirit – of Balinese days past. When viewing the accommodations, it’s hard not to agree that he does just that: the guest rooms and suites, with intriguing titles such as Rejang and Walter Spies, are inviting lodges complete with hand-picked fittings and four-poster king-size beds. The drinks at Ji Terrace by the Sea – again a busy, curio-crammed space – are tiny pieces of art themselves, including one served in a coconut shell emerging from dry ice. Tugu also boasts a spa that delivers centuries-old herbal treatments.
