Set up by the legendary designer Alvar Artek back in 1935, the legacy of his ground breaking L-shaped approach to furniture, lamps and textiles is still in evidence today in the bent plywood Paimio chair and littala glass, both of which are all but ubiquitous in Finnish homes. Its birch 60 stool is now in Apple stores all over the world but you can easily find one of their typically lean, slim designs to call your own that feels a little more individual.
