For over 90 years, The Dorchester, a member of Fine Hotels & Resorts, has held court in the heart of Mayfair, setting the standard for service and exclusivity in the London hospitality landscape. It has played host to world leaders and Hollywood stars, decorated authors and eminent artists, unwavering in its dedication to provide each and every guest a memorable experience year after year.

But while withstanding the passage of time with grace and poise is the mark of a true legend, even the most steadfast institutions must evolve. To this end, The Dorchester has enlisted the aid of some of the most celebrated names in design to revamp the storied hotel’s private and communal spaces, polishing this time-honoured gem without erasing its connection to the past.

To returning guests, The Dorchester’s new look will be immediately apparent before they even step inside. The enhanced forecourt now sports exquisite green granite and a manicured garden area under the beloved plane tree, while new lighting casts a spotlight on the edifice of this Park Lane icon. In the lobby, natural light floods the airy space flanked by two eye-catching artworks that pay homage to the hotel’s prized location.

French interior designer Pierre-Yves Rochon, a darling of five-star hoteliers the world over, set his exacting eye to the task of refitting the guest rooms, where a soothing palette of soft pastels, from pale leaf green to heather blue and lemon yellow, evokes the gentle beauty of an English garden. As part of the refurbishment, new signature and junior suites will also be revealed, ideal for guests seeking a more spacious and home-like atmosphere for their stay.

Rochon is likewise responsible for the new look of The Promenade and Artists’ Bar, the ever-welcoming heart of The Dorchester and a favourite setting for breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and evening Champagne, dinner and entertainment. Throughout the entirely transformed venue, a curated collection of works by contemporary British artists, spanning a range of media and techniques, all combine to give the sensation of strolling through the British countryside.

After dinner, the Vesper Bar awaits. Acclaimed interior architect and designer Martin Brudnizki has reawakened the spirit of the 1930s with ornate Art Deco details like a Palladium leaf ceiling, scalloped sconces and mirrored wall panels framed with gold. British art plays a central role here, too, with original drawings and celebrity photography by Cecil Beaton complemented by pieces from contemporary artists like Rosie Emerson. Furthermore, the new layout provides for a dedicated Park Lane entrance, in addition to an outdoor terrace with views of Hyde Park.

The final fresh feather in the cap of The Dorchester will be the brand new Cake & Flowers boutique, whose simple name belies the regal creations of resident pastry chef Michael Kwan and in-house designer florist Philip Hammond. Presenting shelves upon shelves lined with delicate cakes and sweets, gift hampers, floral bouquets, artisan chocolates and fine Champagnes, Cake & Flowers is the place to go for thoughtful gifts and indulgent treats.
